Magnificent 17th Century Oak Writing Bureau

A collector's piece of museum quality and unique design
Of one pieice construction, in original condition throughout
With wonderful rich warm plum brown colour and lovely patination


Welsh, circa 1660-80
From Mid Wales (Montgomeryshire / Welshpool)
Shaped apron shows ogee arches characteristic of this area
Drawers above show wonderful wild grain, with original brass knobs


Standing on six beautifully turned legs with original bun feet
Legs connected by original wavy stretcher


Side view showing wonderful spindle gallery to top,
and lovely shaped sides to stepped interior


Stepped interior, four drawers on either side of
large parchment well (which has never had a cover)


Another view of interior showing five arched compartments to rear,
probably used for different coloured ink bottles and their quills.
Bottom drawers pulled out fully to reveal three secret drawers


Interior drawer fronts have writting on. Difficult to read
Possibly the names of tenant farmers from the estate
