
English early 19th century Yew Wood Windsor Dining Chairs
Attributed to the Prior family, Thames Valley area, circa 1790-1845

Four carvers and twelve without arms, all in Yew wood with Elm seats

Hoop backs with scribe line, supporting three narrow fretted splats
with central roundels, alternating with two long spindles
Carvers also have shaped arms, with fretted underarm supports and
curved flattened underarm supports morticed into the edge of the seat

All chairs have scribe line around seat
Single ring and concave turned legs connected by crinoline stretcher

None of the chairs are stamped, but the style and finesse in design detail
is typical of the Windsor chairs made by the Prior family
